The Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex is located on the campus of Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. The Complex has two open to the public 18-hole championship golf courses with a first-class golf training center. The two courses are The Kampan Course and the Ackerman Hills Course.
The Ackerman Hills Course first opened for play in 1934. The course was designed by William Diddel. Larry Packard redesigned the Ackerman Hills Course in 1968. The younger of the two courses is the Kampan Course. The Kampen Course opened to the public in June of 1998. The the Kampen Course is an exciting layout designed and built by Pete Dye along with Purdue students and course superintendent Jim Scott and staff.
Kampen has been the host site for the Men's and Women's Big Ten Golf Championships, NCAA Women's Golf Championships, NCAA Men's Golf Central Regional Championships, and NCAA Men's Golf Championships! The Kampen Course has earned acclaim as one of Indiana's premier public courses, as well as one of the nation's leading collegiate golf courses.
The Kampen Course also acts as a living research area for Purdue students with a surrounding natural celery bog and with environmentally sensitive created wetlands. Pete Dye's characteristics are shown in the large greens with mild undulation and subtle breaks, along with thick bluegrass rough and fescue waste areas, which, while varying in size, tend to be accommodating.
The Kampen Course, features large bent-grass greens, fairways and tees. The layout presents a challenge for golfers of all abilities with vast sand bunkers, native grasslands, ponds and a natural celery bog. Kampen offers five sets of tees with the championship tees playing over 7,400 yards and the forward tees playing at 5,300 yards.

I am from Crown Point, Indiana and always organize our foursome and sometimes two groups to play at as many different courses as possible. I played this course with my son last year and his friends. I then took down my group from Cp to play again. Now-planning on going down once PU is out for the summer. Absolutely the best course we have played. Great difficulty course. Hardest we have played but enjoyed much. Would recommend to all. Only downfall for us is the cost. My friends will not travel to play a course that costs to seniors at $70. We went down at end of last season and were extended rate of $50 and yet my friends balked at return trip for us over 70 miles. Still my favorite course. We are hoping for possibly better rates and you can be assured that we will be on the road back to Purdue asap.

This a Pete Dye course and the superintendent worked with Dye in the construction. If this course was in the Chicagoland area it would easily be over $100 and packed! Consistently ranked in the top 10 of Division 1 College courses, hosted 2011 Men's Big Ten and 2008 Men's NCAA Championships. Yes, it is challenging, but in Pete's own words: "Who ever said golf was supposed to be fair?" A must play if you love Dye designs.
